Residential Carpet for Recycling

American Reclamation Offers Residential Carpet for Recycling

Los Angeles, CA homeowners, carpet installers and other contractors will be able to drop off residential carpet for recycling in Los Angeles County  at American Reclamation, effective June 1, 2016 at a reduced rate of $47.50 per ton for residential carpet. The new program is made possible by an agreement with Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE), which operates a carpet stewardship program in California designed to increase the amount of carpet kept out of landfills in the state.

Carpet can be brought to American Reclamation, located at 4560 Doran Street, Los Angeles, CA 90039, open Monday thru Friday, 6:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Saturday 6:00 am to 3:00 pm.  The company is closed on the New Year, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Carpet must be dry, free from debris and cut into manageable sections that have been separated from the carpet pad and rolled.

“We are very pleased to participate in the state’s carpet stewardship program and do our part to help used carpet get recycled into new products rather than ending up in our landfills,” said John Gasparian, American Reclamation’s owner and CEO.

American Reclamation will be collecting the used residential carpet for recycling in its own roll-off containers and trailers or a trailer provided and serviced by CARE. The facility is among 20+ carpet recycling drop-off locations in California currently participating in the program. CARE expects to increase the number of sites in the state to 50 by the end of 2017.

With more than 350 million pounds discarded each year, used carpet is one of the 10 most prevalent waste materials in California landfills. A carpet stewardship law passed in 2010 aims to increase carpet recycling opportunities. Recycled carpet fiber is made into useful new products, like carpet, carpet padding, insulation and even traffic signs. Visit the CARE website at www.carpetrecovery.org for more information.
